DIY FAUX MARBLE COFFEE TABLE

Who doesn’t like an accent marble furniture in the house, right? They are so chic and beautiful, but equally expensive. So when I thought of adding that little bit of marble touch to my space without making a hole in my pocket, I opted for a diy!

For this diy, you shall need the following materials:

a) Gold spray paint

b) Marble contact paper – make sure you measure your table before purchasing the paper and order the right size

c) Scissor

d) Sand paper – if needed to remove old coats of paint

This diy has been on my list for ever now and it was finally time to get it done. So I have had this metal coffee table with a glass top for over 3 years now. We bought it for our previous apartment and even when we got it, it wasn’t really gold in color. It was more like a greenish brown color, not really good looking. But it had a really good design and that was more than enough for me to work with. So back in the day, I painted it gold but now the color had faded and looked kinda dull (you can see that in the picture below).

It needed a second face-lift so I painted it again with fresh coats of gold spray paint. You can also try black spray paint. It looks equally beautiful.

Here is the step by step tutorial for the same:

a) Separate the glass top and keep aside. Start by sanding down the metal frame of the table and spray paint it. Make sure to do this process outside and use a mask so you don’t inhale the toxins. Two coats of paint with 10 minutes of drying interval is all you need. While spray painting make sure to keep a distance of almost 15 cm so that the paint applies evenly on the table. Set aside and let it dry.

b) Now, for the table top, clean the glass top surface thoroughly making sure no dust particles are present on the surface. This is a very important step or-else the contact paper may not stick properly to it.

c) Once its done, measure out the contact paper for the table. Do not forget to leave at least 3-4 inches of extra space on each side for wrapping under the glass surface before trimming the contact paper.

d) Starting at one end of the table top, separate an inch width of the contact paper from its waxy paper backing, line it up against the glass edge, and press it into place, smoothing out any air bubbles. Use a wallpaper smoother if need be. I used my fingers to do so and it worked just fine.

e) Then, gradually work inch by inch removing the waxy paper backing from the contact paper and smooth out more bubbles with the wallpaper smoother/ fingers.

f) Once the entire sheet of contact paper is pressed onto the tabletop and smoothed out, flip the glass top over, make a cut like shown below on each corner and wrap the excess contact paper around the edges like a present. It doesn’t have to be perfect since it won’t be visible when done.

g) Now flip the faux marble (glass top) over again and place it back on the table. And Tah Dah! Your faux marble coffee table is ready to style!

Honestly, this looks really legit! It turned out exceptionally stunning than I excepted it to be. And also easy to maintain as the contact paper is waterproof. So you can wipe it down with a damp cloth. Isn’t that great? And then I could not wait to style it. I am using this beauty in my living room as a side table for some plants and also to hold magazines and coasters.
