HOW TO: HANG ART ON WALLS

STYLING TIPS

Art is one of the best ways to add personality and character to any space. It elevates a space and helps connect the furniture pieces on the floor to the walls to form a perfect vignette. But no matter how beautiful the artwork is, if not hanged at a proper height will make the space feel disconnected and the artwork will look like its floating away.

Today we are talking about the most overlooked aspects of hanging art. Yes, there is a method to it and following these rules will make your artworks and photos shine even more on the walls.

1. HANGING SINGLE ARTWORK

Always hang a single artwork at the eye level of an average person. Whether it is to be hanged over a console or a sofa or even an empty wall then it should be approximately 57-60 inches from the floor to the centre of the artwork. Make sure it is 6-8 inches above the furniture piece.

2. TREAT TWO OR MORE ART PIECES TOGETHER AS ONE

While hanging a group of two or more artworks, you need to treat all the pieces together as one artwork, and then apply the same rule as above i.e. hang them approximately 57-60 inches from the floor to the centre of the collective artwork and 6-8 inches above the furniture.

3. HANGING A GALLERY WALL

If you’re working with more than two frames or creating a gallery wall, position each frame approximately 3-4 inches apart.

4. CONSIDER THE RATIO OF THE ARTWORK TO THE FURNITURE

Small or wrongly proportioned artworks will look off in respect to the furniture placed in front of it. The artwork should fill 2/3 width of the furniture.
